To the editor:
I am writing to encourage everyone in Pelham to vote for Darra Gordon for the Pelham school board. I have known Gordon and her family for eight years, and I have full confidence in her commitment to leading Pelham’s school district through the upcoming strategic planning process. On a personal level, Gordon is a caring committed parent, friend and neighbor who values this community of Pelham. She is a sincere listener and problem solver in every aspect of her life.
As a public school educator with over 25 years of service as a classroom teacher, elementary school principal and currently as a superintendent in the South Bronx, I understand firsthand the importance of strong governance at the board level. Gordon’s professional background makes her uniquely suited to serve on the board of education. As a consensus builder, she will engage with our community as our district determines the priorities for the future. As a leader in a national nonprofit, she has demonstrated that she can manage the challenges of bringing together diverse voices towards a common goal. Her professional background demonstrates that she has the budgetary experience to manage the balancing act of tackling the most pressing issues facing our district with fiscal responsibility. Additionally, her commitment to centering student voices, while providing solutions-oriented leadership, will be a huge benefit. So, I hope that you will join me in voting for Darra Gordon for school board on May 21 at Pelham Middle School.
