Residents of Pelham Manor expressed words of praise and concern to the Pelham Manor board of trustees for taking action on the vehicle and traffic issues that have been present for many years in the Village.
This local law shall be known as “Pelham Manor Code Chapter 202 – Vehicle and Traffic.” The Village of Pelham Manor intends to reduce the village-wide speed limit to 25 miles per hour. The village further intends to streamline, revise, and establish other regulations and specifications in Pelham Manor Code Chapter 202 – Vehicle and Traffic. The board also discussed changing the speed limit to 15 miles per hour for longer after school.
Kara McLaughlin, who lives at 511 Manor Lane, said she thought revamping the driving flow around prospects was a good idea. McLaughlin said it is great on Manor Lane, but the board should consider extending the time past 4pm.
She continued by saying that “many more students are taking advantage of after-school activities and parents are going the wrong way because it is after school hours and the kids who walk home still think it is school time, and only look in one direction.”
Nearly a year after the sinkhole incident in the Four Corners parking lot, the board created a site plan amendment to help the parking lot get fully back and running.
“This has been an ongoing endeavor,” said Mayor Jennifer Monachino Lapey. “Planning board has met with the applicant and the architect and engineers. The planning board does a lot of the deeper analysis because we are so busy with projects for this board. We are fortunate to have talented people to dedicate their time to this project.”
Village Manager Lindsay Luft broke down the Site Plan Amendment. It is a two-part project that works with one another. One is for the municipal brick median to separate the intersection between Pelhamdale and Boston Post Road as the only exit.
It will also allow the parking lot to pick up one parking space. There will be better signage explaining how to navigate the parking lot. They will be re-stripping the parking lot after they patch and reseal the entire lot.
“This has been a long road getting here – brought us to the one-year mark of working with the property owner and the sinkhole,” Luft said. “This project will reseal the entire parking lot so that it looks cohesive, and there will be great improvement for the property and the safety being on that property, adding 11 extra new lights.”
