Moving Pelham Manor elections to November will allow for fairer representation

To the editor:

I am writing in favor of the referendum to move the Village of Pelham Manor elections to the general election date in November, as I think this will allow for a fairer representation of all the Pelham Manor residents.

The current village board consists entirely of members of one party. In my 30 years as a resident, there have been very few trustees and only one mayor elected as members of the other party. While I am not accusing anyone of any malfeasance, when you have an election controlled by the village manager who is hired by and responsible to a one-party monopoly board, it leaves the potential appearance of impropriety.

Frankly, I was astonished that the current board and manager, when presented with a petition signed by roughly a quarter of Pelham Manor residents, chose to devote time and energy and resources of the village in an attempt to legally prevent voters from having their say. Fortunately, they lost in court, and we now have the opportunity to express our views in the voting booth in an independent election. Let’s vote to keep it that way!
