Editor’s note: This announcement was provided by the Pelham Union Free School District. The Pelham Examiner publishes announcements in the form received as a service to the community.

Dear Pelham Community,

As we prepare for the start of the school year, the District in partnership with the Village of Pelham Manor, wants to make you aware of changes to traffic patterns and other safety regulations that are now in effect in school areas. These changes are the result of a comprehensive review of traffic regulations conducted by Pelham Manor that are intended to streamline regulations and improve pedestrian safety. A summary of the changes is as follows:

Speed Limits Reduced Village-Wide

The speed limit on Pelham Manor roads throughout the Village is now 25 mph.

On specific streets around the elementary schools, it is now 15 mph.

Prospect Hill

There have been significant changes in the area of Prospect Hill Elementary School that are intended to be logical and cohesive, especially during drop-off and pick-up times.

Traffic Flow (During School Hours)

Washington Avenue is one way from Oak Lane to Peace Street.

Hudson Street is one way from Peace Street to Prospect Avenue.

Clay Avenue is one way from Oak Lane to Hudson Street.

Drop-off/Pick-up

Families are encouraged to use Washington Avenue, Hudson Street, and Clay Avenue to drop-off and pick-up their students from school.

On Washington Avenue and Hudson Street, families should pull up to the school-side of the street, park, let their child exit the vehicle directly onto a sidewalk, and then continue on.

Please consult the maps below for a visual of the new and previous traffic patterns.

Siwanoy

New stop signs have been added on Manor Lane at its intersections with Siwanoy Place.

Crossing Guard at Wolfs Lane/Iden Avenue

To improve the morning commute, the Village of Pelham Manor will be providing a crossing guard in the morning at the intersection of Wolfs Lane and Iden Avenue. The intent of this crossing guard post is to encourage students to cross Wolfs Lane, take Iden Avenue to Stellar Avenue, from there turn right onto Colonial Avenue, and cross with the crossing guard at Corlies Avenue.

Two stop signs were added at the intersection of Iden Avenue and Stellar Avenue to control the traffic in this area.

Bicycle Safety

The Village of Pelham Manor Police Department (PMPD) is bringing back bicycle registration! Join PMPD for a kick-off event on Thursday, September 12 from 3-5pm at Veterans Park. Those who register their bicycles will receive safety swag, popsicles, and materials on rules of the road.
